Chapter 02

Can Pakistanis get a Schengen visa in 2026?

Yes. Pakistani passport holders need a Schengen short-stay visa to visit any of the 29 Schengen countries, and Schengen consulates in Pakistan accepted 89,270 applications in 2025, according to the European Commission's 2025 visa statistics. One visa covers travel across the whole area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

The honest picture: about 46% of those 2025 applications were not issued (40,026 of them). Pakistan has one of the highest Schengen refusal rates in the world. A complete, consistent and truthful file is essential, and so is applying to the right country.

Working on a Schengen visit visa is illegal in every Schengen country and in Pakistan can lead to prosecution under the Emigration Ordinance. We only assist genuine visitors.

Chapter 03

Which Schengen country do I apply to, and where in Pakistan?

You apply to the consulate of your main destination: the country where you will spend the longest time or where the main purpose of your trip is. If stays are equal, you apply to the country you will enter first (European Commission; Visa Code Handbook). Each country uses its own channel in Pakistan:

Country How you apply in Pakistan (as of 13 Oct 2026) 2025 applications in Pakistan
Germany Directly at the Embassy Islamabad (Islamabad, Punjab, KP, AJK) or Consulate General Karachi (Sindh, Balochistan), via a free online waiting list 18,792
Netherlands VFS Global in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore (also takes Finland applications) 13,108
Spain BLS/Intiana, outsourced partner of the Embassy of Spain, Islamabad 12,296
Italy BLS-Intiana: Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad (Embassy); Karachi, Quetta (Consulate) 10,809

Chapter 04

How much is the Schengen visa fee for Pakistanis?

The Schengen visa fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 12. The German missions in Pakistan collect it in Pakistani rupees, in cash, at their current exchange rate. Countries that use VFS Global or BLS also charge a service fee at the centre; the Italian Consulate in Karachi states BLS's fee as EUR 35. The fee is not refunded if you are refused. Chapter 05

What documents do Pakistanis need for a Schengen visa?

The European Commission lists the core Schengen documents: a passport valid at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, the application form, an ICAO-standard photo, travel medical insurance, documents on the purpose of your trip, proof of financial means and accommodation, and proof that you intend to return. Fingerprints are taken when you apply. Each consulate publishes its own checklist; always use the checklist of your main-destination country.

What a Pakistani file usually contains:

  • Passport (signed; Germany says it cannot print visas in unsigned Pakistani passports), old passports, CNIC.
  • Travel medical insurance with at least EUR 30,000 cover, valid in all Schengen states for your whole stay.
  • Flight reservation and hotel bookings (or host's invitation) matching your itinerary. Use cancellable, real bookings; never fake ones.
  • Bank statements (the EU handbook says at least the last 3 months; 6 months is safer for Pakistani files) and a bank maintenance letter; FBR tax returns.
  • Employer letter with approved leave, or business registration (NTN, SECP, Chamber of Commerce).
  • NADRA FRC for families; nikah nama for spouses (translated).
  • Cover letter and day-by-day itinerary.

If you are employed

Employer letter with role, salary, start date and approved leave; 6 months' salary slips and salary account statement; FBR return; NOC for government employees.

If you run a business

NTN certificate, SECP incorporation or partnership deed, Chamber of Commerce certificate; business and personal bank statements; two years of FBR returns.

If you are a student

Enrolment and leave letter from your institution; parent's sponsorship letter, finances and FRC.

If you are a housewife or dependent

Spouse's employment or business documents and statements; nikah nama with translation; FRC; spouse's sponsorship letter.

If you are retired

Pension slips or credits, bank statements, property or rental income documents.

If you are a freelancer

NTN and FBR returns declaring freelance income; PRCs or bank credit advices for foreign remittances; client contracts or platform statements.

Chapter 06

How much bank balance do you need for a Schengen visa?

Cloud-filled aerial view of scenic mountains from airplane above Barcelona, Spain.

There is no single EU-wide bank balance for a Schengen visa. The EU Visa Code Handbook tells consulates to assess means against the reference amounts set by each Schengen country, and lists recent bank statements "showing movements over a certain period (at least the last three months)", salary slips and employment certificates as proof. It also tells consulates that cash should in principle not be accepted, because loans are sometimes taken just to show a balance. What consulates look for in Pakistani files is the same everywhere: steady income, a balance that fits that income, and no unexplained lump sums just before applying. "Proof of sufficient means of subsistence" is one of the standard refusal grounds in the EU Visa Code Handbook, and so are "reasonable doubts" about the reliability of documents. We never arrange balances; we help you present real finances clearly.

Chapter 07

Why is it so hard to get a Schengen appointment, and how do I avoid slot scams?

A modern jet airplane docked at an airport terminal gate, ready for boarding on a cloudy day.

Schengen appointments in Pakistan are scarce because demand is far higher than consulate capacity. Germany's missions no longer let you book directly; you join a free online waiting list and are given a date later, in order of registration. Italy runs a waiting list for some categories. Middlemen try to grab released slots and resell them, which embassies warn against.

How to stay safe:

  • Book only on the official system linked from the embassy's own website (for example pakistan.diplo.de, netherlandsworldwide.nl, ambislamabad.esteri.it).
  • Never pay for an appointment. Germany's missions say registration is free and anyone asking for money at this stage is a fraudster. The Italian Embassy warned in July 2026 that visa appointments should never be purchased (ProPakistani). The Netherlands tells applicants not to book through an intermediary.
  • One registration per person. Germany cancels duplicate registrations.
  • Some consulates do not accept agencies at all; the Italian Consulate in Karachi says it does not work with consulting or travel agencies.

We do not sell, buy or reserve appointment slots. We prepare your file so it is ready the day your appointment comes.

Chapter 08

How to apply for a Schengen visa from Pakistan, step by step

  1. Fix your itinerary and identify your main destination.
  2. Register or book on that country's official system (waiting list, VFS or BLS). You can apply up to 6 months before travel and should apply at least 15 days before.
  3. Complete the application form (for Germany, the VIDEX form with its barcode page).
  4. Prepare documents from that consulate's checklist, plus EUR 30,000 insurance.
  5. Attend in person for fingerprints and submission, and pay the visa fee and any service fee.
  6. Wait for the decision, usually about 15 days.
  7. Check the visa sticker: dates, number of entries, days allowed.

Chapter 09

How long does a Schengen visa take from Pakistan?

The Schengen decision deadline is 15 calendar days from a complete application, extendable up to 45 days when more checks are needed. Germany's missions in Pakistan say about 14 calendar days, longer in peak season. The real delay is the appointment: build in several weeks to months, and apply as early as 6 months before travel.

Chapter 10

Why Schengen visas get refused (and how to avoid it)

Schengen refusals come on a standard EU form with numbered grounds. For Pakistanis the common ones are: purpose and conditions not justified; insufficient means; reasonable doubts about the reliability of documents; and reasonable doubts about your intention to leave before the visa expires.

Refusal ground Common cause in Pakistani files Fix
Purpose not justified Vague itinerary; applying to a country that is not really the main destination Clear day-by-day plan; apply to the true main destination
Insufficient means Low balance or one recent big deposit Normal 6-month history; document any large credit
Doubtful documents Edited statements, purchased letters, fake bookings Only genuine documents, verifiable at source
Doubt about return Weak ties to Pakistan Employment and leave, business, property, family responsibilities
No valid insurance Policy below EUR 30,000 or not covering all states and dates Check the policy wording before submitting

Chapter 11

What happens at the airport? (FIA, EES and arrival checks)

At departure, FIA immigration in Pakistan can check that you are a genuine visitor. The FIA FAQ lists a return ticket, a confirmed hotel booking with advance payment, sufficient funds (its example is at least EUR 2,000 for Dubai) and a "sound profile"; government servants show their NOC in original. Carry printed insurance, bookings, bank statement and employer letter.

On arrival in Europe, Pakistanis are registered in the Entry/Exit System (EES), which records your name, travel document, fingerprints and facial image and the date of entry and exit. The European Commission says EES started on 12 October 2025, became fully operational on 10 April 2026, and has replaced passport stamping. Overstays are now detected automatically. Full checklist: FIA offloading checklist.

Chapter 12

Is ETIAS needed for Pakistanis?

No. ETIAS is a travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers, and Pakistanis need a Schengen visa instead. As of 13 October 2026 the European Commission says ETIAS is not yet in operation and no applications are being collected. Ignore websites selling "ETIAS for Pakistanis".

Chapter 13

Pakistanis living in the UAE or Saudi Arabia

If you live legally in the UAE or Saudi Arabia, apply at the main-destination country's consulate or service centre in your country of residence, not in Pakistan. The Netherlands, for example, only accepts applications in Pakistan from residents of Pakistan and Afghanistan and tells others to use their country of residence. Show your residence permit (Emirates ID or Iqama and residence visa, valid beyond your return), your UAE/KSA employment or business evidence and local bank statements.

Chapter 15

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Schengen visa fee from Pakistan in 2026?

The Schengen visa fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 12, according to the European Commission. Embassies such as Germany's collect it in Pakistani rupees at their current exchange rate. Outsourced centres (VFS Global, BLS) add their own service fee.

Which Schengen country should a Pakistani apply to?

You must apply to the country of your main destination: where you will spend the longest time, or where the main purpose of the trip is. If stays are equal, apply to the country you enter first. Choosing a country only because it seems easier breaks this rule and can lead to refusal.

How long does a Schengen visa take from Pakistan?

The legal standard is 15 calendar days from a complete application, extendable to 45 days. Germany's missions in Pakistan say about 14 calendar days, longer in peak season. Getting an appointment usually takes far longer than the decision.

How much bank balance is needed for a Schengen visa from Pakistan?

There is no single EU-wide amount. Each Schengen country sets its own reference amounts for daily subsistence, and consulates judge whether your funds match your income, trip length and costs. Unexplained recent deposits are a common refusal reason.

Is travel insurance required for a Schengen visa?

Yes. You need travel medical insurance valid across the Schengen area for your whole stay, covering emergency medical care, hospitalisation and repatriation, with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 under the EU Visa Code Handbook.

Why is it so hard to get a Schengen appointment in Pakistan?

Demand far exceeds consulate capacity. Germany uses free online waiting lists in Islamabad and Karachi, and Italy uses a waiting list for some categories. Never pay anyone for a slot; Germany's missions say anyone asking for money to register you is a fraudster.

What is the Schengen refusal rate for Pakistanis?

EU statistics for 2025 show 89,270 short-stay visa applications at Schengen consulates in Pakistan, with about 46% not issued. Rates differ by country, but they reflect each consulate's mix of applicants, not your personal chance.

Do Pakistanis need ETIAS for Europe?

No. ETIAS is only for visa-exempt travellers, and Pakistanis need a Schengen visa. As of 13 October 2026 the European Commission says ETIAS is not yet operating. Pakistani visitors are, however, registered in the Entry/Exit System (EES) at the border.

Can I visit the UK with a Schengen visa?

No. The UK is not in the Schengen area. Pakistanis need a separate UK Standard Visitor visa to visit the UK.

Can I work in Europe on a Schengen visit visa?

No. Working on a Schengen visit visa is illegal, and in Pakistan it can lead to prosecution under the Emigration Ordinance. A Schengen short-stay visa is for tourism, family visits and short business trips only.
