Chapter 01
Why are UK visit visas refused for Pakistanis?
UK visit visas are refused when the Entry Clearance Officer is not satisfied, on the balance of probabilities, that you meet the Visitor rules. The burden of proof is on you. Paragraph V 4.2 of Appendix V has five tests, and refusal letters usually quote one or more:
| Rule | What the officer must believe | Typical refusal wording (paraphrased) |
|---|---|---|
| V 4.2(a) | You will leave the UK at the end of the visit | "I am not satisfied you will leave the UK at the end of your visit" |
| V 4.2(b) | You will not live in the UK through frequent or successive visits | Seen with long or repeated past stays |
| V 4.2(c) | Your purpose is genuine and permitted | Vague or changing purpose; trip length doesn't fit |
| V 4.2(d) | You will not do prohibited activities | Signs of an intention to work or study beyond what's allowed |
| V 4.2(e) | You have sufficient funds for all reasonable costs | Funds unexplained, recently deposited, or out of line with income |
The Home Office Visit caseworker guidance (published 8 October 2026) lists factors officers weigh: your immigration and travel history, your financial circumstances and family, social and economic background, your ties to your country of residence, and whether your reasons for the visit are credible. It also lists reasons for doubt, including:
- few family or economic ties in Pakistan and several family members in the UK;
- previous deception by you, your sponsor or close family;
- discrepancies between your statements and your sponsor's;
- information that could not be verified.
Separately from genuineness, an application can be refused on suitability grounds under Part Suitability, which replaced Part 9 (Grounds for Refusal) from 11 November 2025 (law-firm commentary; check the rules for current wording). That covers deception, past immigration breaches and criminality.

Chapter 02
How do I read a UK refusal letter?
Read the UK refusal letter line by line and turn each sentence into a question you must answer with evidence. Officers must give factual, clear reasons supported by evidence, so the letter tells you exactly what failed. For example:
| If the letter says… | It usually means… | Answer it with… |
|---|---|---|
| "You have provided bank statements showing a large deposit…" | Funds' origin not shown | Documentary source of that money (sale deed, gift deed plus donor's statement and statement, maturity certificate) and a longer account history |
| "Your salary on the form does not match your payslips…" | Inconsistency | Correct figures, employer letter explaining allowances |
| "I am not satisfied your circumstances in Pakistan…" | Weak ties | Employment and approved leave, business records and FBR returns, property, dependants |
| "Your sponsor's circumstances…" | Sponsor support doubtful | Sponsor's status, payslips, statements, housing, relationship proof |
| "You failed to disclose…" | Possible deception | Take advice before reapplying; this is serious |
Chapter 03
Can I appeal or ask for administrative review of a UK visit visa refusal?
Usually neither. The Home Office caseworker guidance tells officers to use a "no right of appeal" refusal template for visit visa refusals that do not attract an appeal; a right of appeal exists only where the refusal engages a human rights claim, and your letter will say so.
Administrative review from outside the UK costs GBP 80 and must be requested within 28 days, but Appendix AR limits it to specified routes (AR 2.2), and the routes listed in AR 1.1 do not include the Visitor route. Your refusal letter states whether you can request a review.
Chapter 04
Administrative review vs fresh application vs judicial review
| Option | Available for visitors? | Cost | Can you add new evidence? | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Appeal | Only if the letter grants a human rights appeal | Tribunal fee | Yes | Rare for visitors |
| Administrative review | Generally no (visitor routes not in Appendix AR) | GBP 80 | Generally no; it checks for caseworking errors | Only if your letter offers it |
| Fresh application | Yes, any time | Full visa fee again (GBP 135) | Yes | Most refused visitors |
| Judicial review | Possible in theory | High (UK lawyer and court costs) | Limited | Clear legal error only; take UK legal advice |
For almost every Pakistani visitor, a fresh application is the realistic route.

Chapter 05
How to reapply after a UK visit visa refusal
You can reapply straight away; the Immigration Rules set no waiting period after an ordinary visitor refusal (a re-entry ban applies only in the Part Suitability cases below). Reapply when something has genuinely changed or you can now prove what you could not before:
- Map every reason. List each sentence of the refusal letter and the document that answers it.
- Fix the money story. Show where funds came from and a longer, normal account history. Do not move money in just before applying.
- Make the form match the evidence. Every figure on the GOV.UK form (salary, savings, trip cost) should be traceable in your documents.
- Strengthen ties. Employment and dated leave approval, business tax records, property, family responsibilities in Pakistan.
- Declare the refusal. The form asks about previous refusals. Answer yes and explain briefly what has changed.
- Right-size the request. Ask for the time and visa length you need. A 6-month visa for a 2-week family visit is fine; a 10-year visa right after a refusal is not wise.
- Add a short cover letter that addresses the refusal points calmly. Do not argue with the officer.
If your circumstances have not changed and you have nothing new to show, waiting until they have is usually better than paying GBP 135 for the same result.
Chapter 06
What is the UK 10-year ban, and when does it apply?

A 10-year ban applies when the Home Office finds deception in a visit visa application. Under Part Suitability, an application must be refused if the applicant used false documents, made false representations or did not disclose relevant facts (SUI 9.1), and future applications made within 10 years of a deception refusal must be refused (SUI 12.1, which for visits applies to entry clearance applications).
SUI 10.1 also allows refusal where false information was given by a third party, whether or not you knew. That is why an agent who supplies a fake bank statement, fake employer letter or fake booking can cost you a decade. Other ban periods under SUI 12.1 relate to past overstaying and removal: 12 months if you left voluntarily at your own expense, 2 or 5 years if you left at public expense, and 10 years if you were removed.
Chapter 07
Does a UK refusal hurt my Schengen, USA or Canada applications?
A UK refusal does not automatically lead to refusal elsewhere, but most visa forms ask about past refusals and you must answer truthfully. What hurts is hiding it. The UK's own guidance treats refusal of entry or removal by another country as relevant. Fix the weakness, declare the refusal, and keep your story consistent across countries. See Schengen visa refusal from Pakistan.
Chapter 08
Frequently asked questions
Can I appeal a UK visit visa refusal from Pakistan?
Usually not. Most UK visit visa refusals carry no right of appeal; the Home Office uses a 'no right of appeal' refusal template for them. An appeal right exists only where a human rights claim is engaged, and the refusal letter will say so.
Can I ask for administrative review of a UK visit visa refusal?
Generally no. Administrative review from outside the UK (GBP 80, within 28 days) only covers the routes listed in Appendix AR of the Immigration Rules, and visitor routes are not on that list. Your refusal letter states whether review is available.
How soon can I reapply after a UK visit visa refusal?
There is no waiting period in the Immigration Rules after an ordinary visitor refusal, so you can reapply immediately. Reapply only when you can answer every reason in the refusal letter with new, genuine evidence; an unchanged file is likely to be refused again.
Do I have to declare a previous UK refusal?
Yes. The UK application form asks about previous refusals in any country. Not disclosing relevant facts can lead to refusal for deception under Part Suitability, which for visit visas can mean a 10-year ban.
What does 'not satisfied you are a genuine visitor' mean?
It means the officer was not convinced, on the balance of probabilities, that you meet paragraph V 4.2 of Appendix V: that you will leave the UK, have a permitted purpose and have enough genuine funds. It is the most common UK visitor refusal for Pakistanis.
What is the UK 10-year ban for deception?
Under Part Suitability of the Immigration Rules (SUI 12.1), a person who used deception in a visit visa application can be refused any visa application made within 10 years. Deception includes false documents, false statements and hiding relevant facts.
Does a UK refusal affect Schengen or USA applications?
Other countries' forms usually ask about previous refusals, and you must answer truthfully. A single refusal you have since addressed is not fatal, but hiding it is. Home Office guidance itself treats refusals of entry elsewhere as a relevant factor.
Will the UK refund my fee after refusal?
No. UK visa fees and any priority fees are not refunded when an application is refused.
