Chapter 01
What does the UK actually require from a Pakistani visitor?
The UK Standard Visitor rules require you to satisfy the officer, on the balance of probabilities, of five things in paragraph V 4.2 of Appendix V: you will leave at the end of the visit; you will not live in the UK through frequent visits; your purpose is permitted; you will not do prohibited activities (such as working); and you have enough money for the trip without working or public funds. Documents are simply how you prove these.
The UKVI supporting documents guide (updated 8 October 2026) says its suggested documents are not mandatory, and missing one is not by itself a reason for refusal. But the burden of proof is on you, so a thin file usually fails.

Chapter 02
Documents every Pakistani applicant should prepare
| Document | Why | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Valid passport | Mandatory | Valid for your whole stay; signed |
| Previous passports | Travel history | Home Office guidance says past compliant travel, especially to the USA, Canada, Australia, NZ, Ireland or Schengen, may indicate a genuine visitor |
| CNIC; NADRA FRC for family applications | Identity and relationships | FRC proves parent–child and spouse links |
| Bank statements | Funds and their origin | Bank-stamped or verifiable; show normal history, not one big deposit |
| Income proof | Matches the form | Salary slips, FBR tax returns (NTN), pension, rental agreements |
| Ties to Pakistan | Reason to return | Employment and leave letter, business, property documents, children's school letter |
| Cover letter and itinerary (optional) | Explains purpose and dates | Short, factual, consistent with the form |
| Invitation letter (if visiting someone) | Purpose and accommodation | Host's UK status (passport/eVisa share code), address, relationship |
| Certified translations | Required for non-English documents | Translator's details, date, signature, statement of accuracy |
Documents the Home Office says are not useful (do not pad your file with them): hotel bookings, flight bookings (unless transiting), travel insurance, credit card statements, driving licences, unrelated education certificates, car ownership papers, personal photos, notarial certificates, business cards, photocopies of bank cards, and a UK sponsor's utility or council tax bills.
Chapter 03
UK visit visa checklist by applicant type
If you are employed (private or government)
- Employer letter on letterhead: your role, salary, start date, approved leave dates, company contact details.
- Last 6 months' salary slips and the salary account statement showing the same credits.
- FBR income tax return or salary tax certificate, and NTN.
- Government employees: departmental NOC. FIA also asks to see the original NOC at departure (FIA FAQ).
If you run a business
- Business registration: FBR NTN certificate; SECP certificate of incorporation (company) or registered partnership deed; Chamber of Commerce membership if you have it.
- Business bank statements and personal statements, with the link between them clear.
- FBR income tax returns for the last two years.
- Recent invoices, contracts or a tenancy for business premises. The Home Office suggests registration documents or recent invoices for self-employed applicants.
If you are a student
- Letter from your institution on headed paper confirming enrolment and leave of absence (the Home Office specifically suggests this).
- Parent's or sponsor's bank statements, income proof and a short sponsorship letter.
- FRC to prove the relationship.
If you are a housewife or dependent
- Spouse's employment or business documents and bank statements.
- Nikah nama with certified English translation, and FRC.
- Spouse's letter confirming they fund the trip (and whether they are travelling too).
- Your own assets, if any: property in your name, savings, rental income.
If you are retired
- Pension book, pension slip or pension credits on your bank statement.
- Bank statements and, if relevant, property documents and rental agreements.
- Evidence of family and home in Pakistan.
If you are a freelancer
- NTN and FBR tax returns that declare your freelance income.
- Proof of foreign remittances: PRCs (Proceeds Realisation Certificates) or bank credit advices.
- Platform earnings statements or client contracts that match your bank credits.
- A short note explaining irregular income patterns.

If a relative in the UK is sponsoring you
The Home Office guide says sponsor evidence should show what support is given, that the sponsor can afford it for themselves and their dependants, the relationship, and the sponsor's UK status. In practice:
- Invitation and sponsorship letter: who, why, dates, where you will stay, who pays.
- Sponsor's British passport or eVisa share code/status evidence.
- Sponsor's recent payslips, bank statements and, if self-employed, tax documents.
- Proof of relationship (FRC, birth or marriage certificates).
- Your own documents still matter: the officer must believe you will return to Pakistan.
If you are applying for a child
- Birth certificate or FRC linking the child to at least one parent.
- Copy of a parent's passport photo page showing signature and passport number (if that parent is not applying).
- If the child travels without a parent: a signed letter from the parent or guardian confirming consent, who the child travels with (with that adult's passport number), who cares for them in the UK, and travel arrangements. The Home Office says the application may be refused without it.
If you are a business visitor
- Letter from your Pakistani employer confirming your role, the purpose of the visit and who pays.
- Invitation letter from the UK company or event organiser.
- Business visitors cannot do productive work or be paid by a UK source (except listed permitted activities in Appendix V).

Chapter 04
How much money must my UK bank statement show?

The UK sets no minimum bank balance. Home Office caseworker guidance (published 8 October 2026) says "there is no set level of funds required" and that your income or savings minus your financial commitments (rent, loan payments, dependants) must cover the likely cost of the visit and be reasonable for your situation. Three practical rules follow:
- Consistency: the income on your GOV.UK form must match your slips, tax returns and statements. The guidance calls for a "correlation" between the form and the evidence.
- History: if most of the money arrived recently, the officer may check where it came from. Explain any large credit with evidence (sale deed, gift deed with the donor's own statement, maturity of a deposit).
- Proportion: a GBP 4,000 trip on a PKR 80,000 monthly salary with no savings history will raise questions; a trip plan that fits your means will not.
Funds must be held in a financial institution permitted under Appendix Finance (the Home Office excludes institutions it cannot verify). Keep your money in your regular regulated bank account; cash at home, committee (BC) savings or informal arrangements are hard to evidence and are unlikely to be accepted.

Chapter 05
Common document mistakes Pakistani applicants make
- Submitting a "bank maintenance letter" with no statement behind it. Send the statement; a maintenance letter alone shows a balance, not the source.
- Salary on the form rounded differently from the payslip.
- A sponsor's letter that gives different dates or relationship details from yours.
- Leave letter for 10 days but a 3-month trip requested.
- Fake or "reservation-only" hotel and flight bookings bought from agents. They are not needed, and a false document can lead to a deception refusal and a 10-year ban. See UK visit visa refusal.
Chapter 06
Frequently asked questions
What documents are required for a UK visit visa from Pakistan?
Only a valid passport is mandatory for a standard UK tourist or family visit. Everything else is evidence of your circumstances: bank statements, income proof such as salary slips or FBR tax returns, employer or business documents, and an invitation letter if you visit someone.
How many months of bank statement are needed for a UK visit visa?
The Home Office does not set a fixed period. Its supporting documents guide says statements issued more than 1 year before the application are not useful. Most well-prepared Pakistani files show at least 6 months so the officer can see regular income and where the money came from.
Is a sponsor letter needed for a UK family visit?
It is not mandatory, but if a relative in the UK is hosting or paying for you, a letter from them plus their UK status, address and financial evidence helps. The Home Office checks that the relationship is genuine and the sponsor can afford it.
Do I need travel insurance for a UK visit visa?
No. The Home Office lists travel insurance among documents that are not useful evidence for a visit visa. You may still choose to buy insurance for your own protection.
Do UK visit visa documents need to be translated?
Yes. Any document not in English or Welsh needs a full translation that the Home Office can independently verify, with the translator's confirmation of accuracy, date, full name, signature and contact details.
What documents does a child need for a UK visit visa?
A child needs a passport, a birth certificate or NADRA FRC linking them to a parent, and a copy of a parent's passport photo page. If the child travels without a parent, a signed parental consent letter with travel and care details is needed, or the application may be refused.
Is a polio certificate required for a UK visit visa?
The UK visitor supporting documents guide does not list a polio certificate. Pakistan's own departure rules are separate; carry your NIMS polio certificate if you have one.
Is there a minimum salary for a UK visit visa?
No. The UK Standard Visitor rules set no minimum salary or balance. Home Office guidance says funds must cover the likely cost of the trip after your commitments in Pakistan, and be reasonable for your financial situation.
